Paint throughput

Incorrectly sized paint filter housing and filter elements with a non-optimum mesh size may cause enormous problems in the painting process.
Either they are of no use, because the selected mesh size is too large, or they have the effect of a bottleneck (if the size of the filter housing or mesh size is too small) that can always lead to production interruptions.

As a result, due to bad experiences made, some paint manufacturers would understandably prefer not to install a filter into your machine at all.
As a rule paints delivered by today's paint manufacturers provide no reason for complaint because the paint manufacturers also make a major effort to achieve or rather guarantee the required qualities.

Problems often commence at the latest once the container has been opened. Even if everything is kept meticulously clean, dried paint residue or dust can get into the paint material and in the worst case this can cause scrap and production interruptions.

Or what about, for example, the frequently occurring deposits in the paint supply lines? Anyone with practical experience knows about the problem of deposits that can gradually become loose and eventually even cause a jamming of valves.

All of these circumstances make the use of good quality paint filters necessary.

During development of our paint filters we have consistently taken care to avoid any undercuts in which paint can settle and then only be washed out with difficulty.
In addition we set a high value on achieving the largest possible area of penetration of the filter elements, so that our filters do not form a bottleneck in terms of the throughput of paint.
However, the paint flow is always dependent on several factors.

These include for example :

  • viscosity of the paint
  • fillers such as metallic fillers and the like
  • temperature
  • pump pressure
  • etc.

This means that no really reliable information on the actual paint throughput can be given.
For this reason, we recommend you first to consult your paint supplier before selecting the mesh size of the filter inserts and then run trials at your plant. An appropriate test filter housing can be provided by m-systems for a small charge. Please understand that we have to charge you with the costs of any filter inserts required for the tests.
